SAMPLE PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
School Wide Standards-Based Science Programs & C.S.T. PREP.
Through the use of real-world, tactile activities, we offer comprehensive standards-based science programs for students grades K through 5. Principals and teachers choose from an array of innovative classes that coincide with the material they are teaching in the classroom. Each week, a STAR Scientist will teach an engaging hands-on science lesson. Each lesson targets specific California State Science standards, and STAR Science provides all materials for each lesson. Pre and post assessments based on the CST Science test will be administered upon request. The opportunity to "learn-by-doing" ensures students at every level will benefit from this program.
School Wide Technology Programs
The world of technology is expanding and revolutionizing our world at an incredibly rapid rate. Children of today are born “Digital Natives”, utilizing technology as a tool for their everyday needs and outpacing their teachers in ways to integrate and utilize that technology as part of their every day lives. Focusing on using technology as a tool to promote learning concepts the STAR Technology Lab will focus on introducing students to design and creation tools that they can later use to illustrate concepts they are learning in other classes like science and math.
The full year STAR Technology Lab consists of four, eight-week modules of lab instruction, original project classes developed in coordination with classroom teachers and one-on-one professional development sessions for teachers. *An additional tech support piece may be added to this program for an additional fee.
MODULE 1: Code Your World
The ability to create a program is based on the ability to write code. Within this introductory workshop students will work with fun and simple programs as they are introduced to the world of coding. If students can solve a jigsaw puzzle, then they can build a computer and program it. With a lot of imagination and a little creativity, students can assemble their own tiny portable computer, then learn to program using games like Pong, Snake, and even Minecraft! Within this workshop series students will learn the basic programming skills that help them craft and control their creative world.
MODULE 2: Intro to Game Design
There is an entire artistic and mathematical world behind the world of “gaming”. Within this workshop series students won’t just play games… they will learn how to make games. Here students will build upon their introductory programming experience while you looking at strategies to re-design old game concepts and even craft completely new games.
MODULE 3: Mobile App Inventors
Taking their coding skills to the small screen students will learn how to create their own applications for mobile devices. Using MIT’s App Inventor student’s drag and drop buttons, images and connect up programming blocks to build a soundboard app, their own magic 8 ball, mobile games and more.
MODULE 4: Making and Printing in 3D
3-D printing and the ability to rapid prototype has revolutionized the design and engineering world. Now an engineer or a designer has the ability to dream up a concept and test it out immediately. Within this workshop students will learn to use kid-friendly design tools to craft wearable objects, toys, game pieces and more. Finally, working as a class, students will select class designs to be printed. Note: This workshop requires a dedicated 3-D printer.
Original Project Workshops: Designated time slots to be utilized for the STAR Technology teacher to work along-side the classroom instructors to collaborate on specialized programs to teach core academic subjects.
Professional Development: Time slots to be utilized for the STAR Technology teacher to provide one-to-one technology instruction to the classroom teacher. Additionally, these sessions can be booked at grade level meeting time slots for grade level professional development sessions.
Technical Support and Web Development: Provides classroom instructors with additional assistance setting up and trouble shooting technology within their classroom. Web-development and maintenance can additionally be added to this package. Additional fee assessment may be needed based on the requirements of the school.
School Wide Art Programs
The STAR Art program introduces students to the fantastic world of visual art. Behind every great artist is an incredible imagination along with the technical ability to bring those imaginings to life. The STAR Art program introduces students to a range of media and the techniques to bring their ideas to life. In the STAR ART Lab students will learn to turn paint into paintings, pencils into the vehicle needed to render a beautiful landscape and paper into a tool to design and create multi-dimensional creative designs.

STAR Music offers an array of programs, customized to fill in the musical gaps in your particular school. From a full scale orchestra to a rock band, to individualized instruction on the keyboard, violin, clarinet, and percussion instruments, STAR provides the mentor-musicians and musical equipment for your students to musically soar!
School Wide Inquiry-Based Education
Let STAR Education mentor teachers host your school's "Inquiry Café," a dynamic "hands-on" and "minds-on" think tank where students will view themselves as active participants in the process of learning. Through interactive learning in Critical Thinking, Science, and Life Skills, students will carry out investigations using a variety of methods to communicate their ideas, such as journaling, listening, speaking and writing. In this café, we will solicit and honor thinking as students become comfortable sharing their ideas and opinions and feel encouraged to share new information. This program can be designed for GATE, single-grade, or whole school participation.
